Transfer the concept of recovery runs into a realistic match environment, where players must recognise transition moments and react instinctively
This game transfers the concept of recovery runs into a realistic match environment, where players must recognise transition moments and react instinctively. The addition of recovery zones reinforces the habit of sprinting back into defensive shape and encourages accountability across the team when possession is lost.
Set up a 50x35 yard pitch with goals at each end. Mark a 10-yard recovery zone just inside each half. Play 7v7, including goalkeepers if available.
Teams play a normal game, but when possession is lost, players must sprint back through their defensive recovery zone before they can fully engage in defending. This creates moments where the team in possession can exploit overloads, forcing realistic recovery runs. Goals count as normal, with restarts played quickly to maintain tempo.
