A festive favourite to encourage youngsters’ basic dribbling skills and communication.
This fun and festive game encourages players to practice their basic dribbling skills and also introduces communication and an element of competition.
Mark out an area suitable for the size of your group. Scatter ‘presents’ (balls) around randomly and place ‘chimneys’ (hoops, or create circles with cones) around the area too. Mark out a large area to be used as a ‘sleigh’.
Players first need to help Santa collect his presents, which have been lost after his sleigh crashed! They should dribble as many balls as possible to the sleigh area.
Once all presents have been returned to Santa, players can be given a team colour. The aim is to deliver the correct number of presents to their colour hoops as quickly as possible – the coach can decide how many presents need to be in each chimney at the start of each round.
If a present is knocked out of the area, it must be returned to the sleigh before a player can try to deliver it again.
Deliver the balls by hand first if your players are new to the game.
If the playing area is too busy for players, remove the chimneys until all presents have been returned to the sleigh.
Increase or decrease the playing area to make it easier or trickier to dribble the ball in between chimneys.
Encourage players to look up when dribbling and to take small touches of the ball using both feet.
1. Set up an area with up to 30 balls scattered around, hoops and a ‘Santa’s sleigh’ area
2. Players dribble scattered balls back to Santa’s sleigh
3. Now it’s time to deliver the correct number of presents to the chimneys
